Since 2000, students have been working on the design and building process of the James S. Markiewicz Solar Energy Research Facility. There are two senior design teams working on the project.

The first team, led by Melissa Meyer, is working on the solar furnace reactor platform. Her team includes: Austin Hunter, Alex McGuffey, Jeff Rinkenberger and Andrew Schiller.

The second team, which is led by Megan Wilken, is designing the solar flux instrument. The team includes: Jim Chase, Matthew Gaide, Matthew LaRue and Sam Sowles.
