Jorie's Story

"At Valpo, you’re going to get a really well-rounded experience–with a lot of personal attention–that’s going to get you where you want to go."

Jorie Ballun is an engineering major, but that hasn’t stopped her from having a complete Valparaiso University experience.

As a member of the cross country and track teams, she has had the chance to participate in Division I athletics. And as a student in the College of Engineering, she has benefitted from the kind of undergraduate research opportunities that are hard to match, such as those that Valpo offers with the James S. Markiewicz Solar Energy Research Facility, which is being built in part by students with faculty supervision.

"It's just mind-blowing,” she said. “No one else I know is working on projects like this. It's top-of-the-line technology. Working on renewable energy is really hot right now, and the fact that I'm doing that before I even graduate and get a real job is awesome."

Valparaiso University’s professional schools – engineering, business, and nursing – offer the best in technical instruction. But at Valpo, you can also participate in athletics, music, and more. Developing the complete individual, inside the classroom and beyond, is what Valpo is all about.
