A Valparaiso University engineering student has earned national recognition for academic achievements and accomplishments within the field of engineering. Senior Computer Engineering major Josh Wood was named a 2007-2008 Tau Beta Pi Scholar and presented with a $2,000 scholarship by the national engineering honors society. Josh was one of only 135 students selected across the country to earn this prestigious honor, which is awarded annually based on applicants’ academic performance, faculty recommendations, extracurricular involvement, promises of substantial achievement in the area of engineering through a definite plan or purpose, and participation in a program through which accomplishment will advance the interest of the engineering profession. Josh is one of four Valpo engineers to earn the award in the past two years; no other College of Engineering in the U.S. has had more winners. “Valpo to me emphasizes values-based learning,” he explained. “Valpo has provided me with opportunities in research and interdisciplinary study that I would not be able to receive anywhere else. These opportunities have not only helped me to be a better engineer, but they have helped me to become a better person. That experience, to me, will always be valuable.” Josh will graduate in May 2008 and plans to attend graduate school where he will continue his research in nanotechnology.
