Biography

Professor Anderson comes to Valparaiso University from The Ohio State University, where she earned a Ph.D. in Linguistics with a focus on English language variation and change. Having earned an M.A. in English (with specialization in digital humanities) as well as a B.A. in English and Linguistics, Professor Anderson is interested in the ways that linguistic analysis can inform the study of writing. Prof. Anderson is especially interested in the impact of generative AI on writing processes and best practices for fostering critical AI literacy.

Professor Anderson teaches a range of courses in the English Department, including courses in the TESOL program and in the English Studies & Communications program. She also enjoys teaching in the first-year writing experience (Core). She has taught Core; TESOL Theory and Methods; Grammar, Style, and Editing; Introduction to Linguistics; Sociolinguistics; Language, Sex, and Gender; History of the English Language; and The Theory and Practice of Tutoring Writing. She particularly enjoys working with first-year writers and multilingual writers.

Appreciating the cross-pollination of effective teaching and research, Professor Anderson has published scholarship in the areas of critical AI literacy, writing center studies, digital humanities, TESOL, Old English poetics, and the history of the English language.
