Engl. 368/568: TESOL: Theory and Methods I

Cr. 3. Grantz:

This TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) course is the first of a two-semester course which will help to prepare students to teach English as a Second or Foreign Language to non-native speakers, either abroad or in the US. The courses will combine theory with practical aspects of second-language teaching; ENGL 368/568 will have a larger focus on the theoretical and historical background of second language teaching and theories of second language acquisition, but it will also cover practical applications of these theories through methods of teaching speaking, listening and grammar.  This is not a straight lecture course; . The course will also include readings, class discussions and activities, and require students to take an active part in class discussions and activities, develop ESL lessons, peer teach and teach an ESL lesson to English language learners.
