Professor Debra Dew comes to Valparaiso University from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, where she served as the Director of Rhetoric and Writing Program from 2000 - 2012. Prof. Dew has expertise in eighteenth and nineteenth-century rhetoric, writing, and writing instruction, and has taught courses in those areas as well as in writing program administration, feminist rhetoric, and rhetorics of faith and the state.
At Valparaiso University, she is administering a writing program across the disciplines that extends from a student's first semester through graduation.
Prof. Dew co-edits the Journal of the Council of Writing Program Administrators, and has published on the teaching of writing and writing program administration in College Composition and Communication, Composition Forum, and the Journal of Writing Program Administration, as well as in Untenured Faculty as Writing Program Administrators: Institutional Practices and Politics (2007) and The WPA Outcomes Statement--A Decade Later (Parlor Press, 2012). She has authored a writing textbook, and her research interests include the intersections of faith-based and civic rhetorics.
