Friedrich Professor of American LiteratureHuegli 312 BiographyProfessor Feaster joined the Valparaiso University English faculty in 1970 after serving as an editorial assistant on the staff of the journal Modern Fiction Studies. He values the small-town atmosphere of the city of Valparaiso and the fact that VU itself is small, warm, and friendly. Professor Feaster’s teaching philosophy is simple. He strives to be well-prepared for classes, conscientious and professional in relationships with students and with other faculty, and to treat students with respect. His teaching specialties include literary criticism and theory, American Realism, and twentieth-century fiction. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on Joseph Conrad, and is still partial to his work. Growing up on the Mississippi River and a love for reading connect Professor Feaster to Mark Twain’s stories of Huck Finn. Professor Feaster’s hobbies include gardening, antiquing, and Model A Fords. He is also an avid reader of murder mysteries. He received his B.A. from Valparaiso University, his M.A. from Northern Illinois University, and his Ph.D. from Purdue University.
