Two poems from VPR named best of 2009-10

VPR logoTwo poems included in recent issues of Valparaiso Poetry Review have been named among the best works appearing in online literary journals during the previous year.

"Ground Truth,” a poem by Pulitzer Prize-winner Claudia Emerson, has been selected by Dzanc Books to be one of the works included in “Best of the Web 2010,” an annual print anthology that compiles the best fiction, poetry, and non-fiction online literary journals have to offer. This annual anthology has been described by the Los Angeles Times as a “heartily significant” book that reflects the finest writing appearing in online publications. “Ground Truth” appeared in the Fall/Winter 2009-2010 issue of Valparaiso Poetry Review, which celebrated ten years of the journal’s publication.

The Moon as Absence and Desire,” a poem by Al Maginnes, author of four books of poetry, has been selected to be one of 25 poems or short stories honored by Sundress Publications as the best published in online journals in the previous year. The poem, which appeared in the Fall/Winter 2008-2009 issue of Valparaiso Poetry Review, was chosen from among more than 500 nominated works published during 2009 in nearly 80 online literary journals for inclusion in the annual “Best of the Net” anthology released by Sundress Publications.

These selections represent repeat honors for Valparaiso Poetry Review, whose works in past years have also been included in a number of previous editions of both anthologies.
