Poet, Essayist, Undertaker Thomas Lynch to Speak 11/1

This All Saints' Day, Thomas Lynch, author of The Undertaking: Life Studies from the Dismal Trade and The Sin-Easter: A Breviary, among seven other books of poems, essays, or fiction, will be presenting from his poetry at 4:15 in the Harre Union Ballrooms B and C.  Pizza, pop, and book-signing will follow from 5:15 to 6:15.  At 6:30, Lynch will lecture in the Harre Union Ballrooms B and C on "Good Death, Good Grief, Good Funerals." 

The Undertaking won the American Book Award in 1997.  Lynch's work has appeared in The New Yorker, Granta, The Atlantic, and The New York Times.  His work has been the subject as well of two documentary films, including an Emmy award-winning PBS Frontline production.

The lecture is part of the Theology department's John Martin Gross and Clara Amanda Gross Memorial lectureship.  The lecture this year is sponsored by the department of Theology, the Cultural Arts Committee, the Core program, and Christ College.

The lecture series is free and open to the public.
