Christmas Concert Returns to Chicago For the fifth consecutive year, Valparaiso University presents its traditional Christmas Concert in Chicago while continuing the campus performance that has been a part of holiday celebrations for more than 75 years. Enjoy yourself as more than 200 student musicians in the Chorale, Chamber Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra fill you with the holiday spirit. The Chicago performance is at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, in Chicago's Symphony Center on Michigan Avenue. Tickets are on sale at 312.294.3000. Clark McAlister’s “Symphonies de Noel” sets the tone for an inspiring performance of music built around beloved carols, hymns, and texts of Advent and Christmas. Traditional settings by Vaughan Williams, Bach and Telemann complement new offerings such as a motet by Whitacre, wind fantasia by Mahr, a capella gospel from Friesen-Carper, and the world premier of Randall Davidson’s “Of the Father’s Love Begotten.” Campus Performances The annual performances in the Chapel of the Resurrection on campus are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 3, and at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 4. Call 219-464-5162 for ticket information.. Other Weekend Activities The concert at Symphony Center is one of numerous Valpo events scheduled for Chicago the first weekend in December. The men’s basketball team faces Duke University in a game at the United Center at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. There will be a post-game gathering at Salvage One, 1840 W. Hubbard St., and late-night socializing at Kitty O’Shea’s Irish Pub in the Hilton Chicago hotel on Michigan Avenue.
