The foundation of the Exploratory program is the role the advisors play in guiding and assisting students through their exploration of the many possibilities open to them, while also helping students stay on track to graduate in four years.  As an Exploratory student, you will be assigned a faculty advisor with whom you will meet at least once a semester, but who is available most days of the week and sometimes in the evenings to meet with you. This advisor will help you determine what areas interest you the most and help you choose classes that both fit those interests and fulfill graduation requirements.  Your Exploratory advisor is an instrumental resource who will not only help you plan your class schedule but will also:

• talk to you about  majors and minors, career choices and coursework
• introduce you to faculty members in fields that interest you so that you can interview them
• put you in touch with extracurricular groups that can give you opportunities to try out your interests and apply your skills
• give you information about introductory courses that are offered in most fields of study and help you get into these courses so that you can “test the waters”
• direct you to additional resources and opportunities such as studying abroad
• assist you through the process of declaring a major, after which you will be assigned a new advisor in your major
