New water and sewer mains are being installed throughout campus, both to create capacity for addition of the new union and to replace deteriorating 50-year old lines. The path of these mains means that excavation must take place all across campus. This is evident in trenching in order to lay new pipe, digging entrance and exit areas for underground boring, and in digging next to campus buildings to connect the new lines to them. Much of the most disruptive work is being scheduled for Spring Break, but much excavation is required during January and February to prepare for Spring Break work.
