Consolidation Application Helps

As you complete the Consolidation Application beginning on the next page, you will need the following information:

• The name and address of your current lender(s):
  For your Direct Loans, you should enter:
  U.S. Department of Education
  Direct Loan Servicing Center
  PO Box 5609
  Greenville, TX 75403-5609
  For Perkins Loans:
  Finance Office
  Valparaiso University
  1700 Chapel Drive
  Valparaiso, IN 46383
  
  If you have also borrowed federal loans through banks or other lenders, you will need to secure those addresses from the lenders. If you are unsure about who your lenders are, you may access that information at The Loan Locator website.


• Loan Codes
  The application will ask for the type and amount of loans you are consolidating. The codes you should enter are:
  • D for Direct Subsidized Loans
  • L for Direct Unsubsidized Loans
  • A for any Stafford Subsidized Loans borrowed from a lender other than Direct Loans
  • G for any Stafford Unsubsidized Loans borrowed from a lender other than Direct Loans


• Account Number: your loan account number is your Social Security Number

Two helpful hints:

• We have been told that the Consolidation website does not work with Mozilla. You will need to use either Internet Explorer or Netscape.
• Those who have consolidated previously have advised that you should save your application after you complete each page to avoid losing data in the event of a problem with your computer or the consolidation server.
