Financial Aid Timeline
October - January 15: Apply
for Admission - apply by January 15 for best possible scholarships/awards.
January 1 - March 1: File the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). - file by March
1 (postmark date) for best aid award based on need.; March 1 is
an absolute deadline for Indiana grant programs. VU's Federal School
Code to include on the FAFSA is 001842. Obtain a FAFSA from any
high school, college, or university in your area or apply on-line.
3 - 4 weeks after filing the FAFSA: Receive the Student
Aid Report (SAR) and review it. Corrections may be sent to the federal
processor if necessary.
Beginning in March (allow 4-6 weeks after filing the
FAFSA): Receive award material from Valparaiso University's Office
of Financial Aid. This will include your Award Letter, detailed
information about your awards, loans, and work programs, financial
planning options, and if applicable, documents needed to complete
your file. These documents should be submitted to the Office of
Financial Aid as soon as possible.
May 1: (new students only) Postmark the Enrollment
Decision Form along with the enrollment deposit to the Office of
Admissions to secure your financial aid award.
Mid-July: Receive your preliminary billing statement
from the Office of Student Accounts, which will include the estimated
charges and financial aid credits for the first semester. Choose
a payment option. The preliminary bill for Spring semester will
be mailed in late November.
Every month: Receive a statement from the Office of
Student Accounts, which will show all transactions that have occurred
on your account that month and the amount still due (if any).
December/January Renewal of Aid: Most students who
filed the FAFSA the previous year will receive a renewal application
from the federal processor. File the renewal application, or another
FAFSA, between January 1 and March 1 for the following year. Valpo
attempts to maintain consistency in award packaging from year to
year, but award levels could change if there are changes in the
FAFSA information.
