Valpo offers additional grants and awards based on the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students must comply with the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy to be eligible for renewal after the first year.
- Academic Competitiveness Grants (ACG) are awarded to students who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant. The ACG is awarded to first and second year students who completed a rigorous high program (Valpo must have a final 8th semester high school transcript on file to verify) You must have a 3.0 GPA after your first year, to renew for your second year
- Academic level for the ACG are only: (May receive only one grant at each grade level)
- Freshmen = 0-23.5 credits
- Sophomore = 24-55.5 credits
- National SMART Grants are awarded to students who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant. The SMART Grant is awarded to third and fourth year students who have a 3.0 GPA in an eligible major.
- Eligible Majors for Valpo Students include: Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Math, Chemistry, Geology/Earth Science, Geoscience, Physics, Meteorology, Classics, French, German and Spanish.
- Academic level for the SMART grant are only: (May receive only one grant at each grade level)
- Junior = 56-87.5 credits
- Senior = 88+ credits
- TEACH Grant - Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grants are awarded to students who are enrolled in a TEACH eligible program, complete the Agreement to Serve, and meet other academic requirement.
- FAFSA must be on file
- Can be an undergraduate or a graduate student
- Full-time awards as high as $4000 per year
- Indiana State Grants - For IN residents attending IN schools with financial need. The FAFSA must be received by the Federal Processor by March 10 preceding the award year. You may receive Indiana grants for a maximum of 8 semesters.
- Illinois Neighbor Grant Program - Valparaiso University grant that is awarded to Illinois students who would qualify for the Illinois MAP grant. Award amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000 annually.
- Michigan Neighbor Grant Program - Valparaiso University grant that is awarded to Michigan students who would qualify based on the FAFSA. Award amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000 annually.
- Valpo Gift Awards - Awarded to students with unmet need after all scholarships, federal/state grants, loans, and work study have been awarded.
