German: 2012-2013

Geraldine Kreckwitz (International Business major; junior)

Geraldine is a German exchange student from the European School of Business in Reutlingen and will be studying at Valpo for the fall semester. She is an active member of the German Club and spends her free time running and swimming. Apart from the German House, the library has become her second home, where you can often find her doing homework by the Grinders coffee shop.

Mary-Ann Craft (Biology and German major; junior)

Mary-Ann plans on minoring in Chemistry and will be studying in Reutlingen in the spring. She is also an active member of the German Club and enjoys trying out new recipies on her unsuspecting housemates during German House dinners!

Emily Stillman (German and Secondary Education majors, English minor; senior)

Emily spent her junior year abroad in Tübingen and now serves as the German Club’s Public Relations Chair. She loves decorating with Post-its and dancing. When she’s not designing lesson plans in preparation for student teaching, she works as a tutor through the Study Buddy program.

Friederike Trautmann (International Business major, junior)

Friederike is a German exchange student from Tübingen and will spend the fall and spring semester at Valpo. She is the RA in the German House and an active member of the German Club. She is also a member of Valpo’s soccer club and enjoys playing tennis and running.

Hannah Heagy (German and Spanish majors; sophomore)

This year, Hannah is catching up on speaking German in the German House after spending her summer in Valparaiso, Chile. She worked as an intern with the YMCA. On campus, she is a member of the Social Action Leadership Team (SALT), Sigma Alpha Iota musical fraternity (SAI), the Hooked on Tonics a cappella group, and is a Student Building Manager at the German House. She plans to spend her junior year abroad in Tübingen, Germany.

Jake Stefan (Chemistry, Biology, and German majors; senior)

Jake just came back from a year abroad in Tübingen, Germany, serves as Treasurer of the German Club, and is a Student Building Manager at the German House. When he’s not in the German House, Jake can usually be found in the communications building, serving as the Assistant Editor-in-Chief for The Torch, Valpo’s student newspaper.

Jocelyn Hansen (Vocal Performance and German majors; junior)

Jocelyn is a transfer student and just spend a wonderful summer in Strobl, Austria. She is an active member of the German Club. When not involved in all things German, she can be found in the VUCA, locked in a practice room or running music events.

Kaitlyn Carzoli (German and French majors; sophomore)

Kaitlyn is one of the Student Building Mangers at the German House and also teaches 2nd and 3rd grade in the Kinder Lernen Deutsch program. She plans on spending her junior year abroad in Tübingen, Germany.

Nola Prough (Spanish major; sophomore)

Nola has a love of languages, including German, Pig Latin, American Sign Language, Openglopish, and Xtosa. She is a involved in various activities on campus, such as, Intervarsity, Humans vs. Zombies, and Pep Band. In her ample spare time, she does homework, but she prefers to read, play games, bake, and take walks.

Rebecca Hoffman (Chemistry and German majors; junior)

This is Becca’s second year living in the German House. She enjoys cookies, playing solitaire and dancing. This spring she will be studying abroad in Reutlingen.

Thom Lund (Accounting major; junior)

Thom is a junior Accounting major with a minor in German. This is his first year at Valpo, having previously attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. He is a member of Valpo’s a capella group “Hooked on Tonics” and will be playing rugby with the Northwest Indiana Exiles in Hobart.

Emily Steinbacher (Nursing major, German minor; sophomore)

This is Emily’s first year living in the German House. She is very involved in choral music, and on campus she sings in the Kantorei of the Chapel of the Resurrection. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors and is very crafty. Some of her favorite activities include quilting, cross-stitch, and reading historical fiction.

Nicolas Gibney (International Business major; junior)

Nicolas is a junior International Business major from Illinois. He just returned from a semester abroad in Reutlingen, Germany, and is enjoying keeping his German skills fresh by living in the German House.
