The Northwest Indiana American Association of teachers of French, AATF, held their annual Spring Brunch Saturday, May 3 in Valparaiso, IN at the home of our AATF president, Barb Seeley to honor 39 recipients of chapter and National awards for the National French Test, Le Grand Concours 2008. 100,699 French students from public, private and home school programs enrolled this year. Also in attendance were Valparaiso Professor Karen Berrier and our AATF Regional Representative Randa Duvick.
Teachers and parents are to be congratulated for encouraging their students to study French seriously: 385 students signed up to take the National Exam at four different locations, March 14-17, from Boone Grove, Crown Point High, Hanover Central, Lake Central High, Merrillville High, Michigan City High, Munster High, New Prairie High, Oregon-Davis High, and Wilbur Wright Middle School.
We had one national winner at Level 2 from Laura Guill’s class at Munster High.
A senior from Crown Point High was awarded the AATF chapter scholarship at the brunch: She has participated in the exam four year in a row, winning first place each year and ranked in the top ten nationally the first three years.
