The German program at VU offers advanced courses that focus on three areas: language skills, literature, and civilization. All advanced courses are conducted in German. We encourage students to study abroad and participate in German-related activities on campus. Students who major in German pursue a variety of careers, from teaching to business. All of them, however, realize the value of being able to communicate effectively in a language other than English and of being conversant in the German literary and cultural traditions, as well as understanding contemporary German culture.
