Erin Kunert

Associate Director of Study Abroad


Erin oversees all study abroad operations. She manages Valpo's study centers in England, Germany, China and Costa Rica and coordinates various exchange, third-party provider and faculty-led, short-term programs world-wide. Prior to Valpo, she worked at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in their Center for International Education as their Study Abroad Financial Specialist. Primarily she worked with day-to-day financial matters, but also helped guide students looking for funding for their study abroad programs and collaborated with the Financial Aid Office. She has a B.A. in German from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay and an M.A. in Languages, Literature and Translation with an emphasis in German from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. During her undergrad she spent a semester abroad at the University of Kassel in Germany. She is fluent in German.

Marisa Henderson

Marisa Henderson serves as the Office Coordinator for the Office of International Programs. She helps students acquire international experience by facilitating faculty-led study abroad programs, while also aiding international students through International Student Services. As someone who highly values international exposure she has had the opportunity to work for the General Consulate of Spain in Chicago and Illinois Legal Aid Online in Chicago as Spanish Coordinator. She also acquired experience in international education while serving as a mentor at the Purdue University Calumet Office of International Affairs. Previously she spent a year teaching English in France in Île de France at Lycée Montesquieu.  She has done study abroad in Japan and France. Having participated in a joint undergraduate research project with Dr. Jorge Roman-Lagunas, Marisa also had the opportunity to conduct a presentation for the Central American Literature Conference in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala on Magic Realism and Miguel Angel Asturias. Marisa obtained her B.A. in Spanish and Political Science from Purdue University Calumet, as well a minor in French. She is fluent in Spanish and French with beginner N5 certification in Japanese.

Nicole Hughes

IEP Study Abroad Adviser


Nicole is the IEP study abroad adviser on campus. She encourages Valpo students to study, intern, or volunteer abroad through planning outreach events and developing marketing materials/strategies. She advises students on all CISabroad programs. Nicole graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BA in International Relations and Spanish. During her junior year, she studied abroad in Granada, Spain. Upon graduation, she returned to Spain to teach English in a public high school. During this time, she was able to travel extensively throughout Spain and many other countries. Two of her favorite destinations include Hungary and Morocco. Nicole is excited to share her passion for education abroad with students!
