BRIDGES TO WORLD LANGUAGES

bridges

Valparaiso Community Schools and Valparaiso University have partnered to offer foreign language exploration classes to fourth- and fifth-graders. In this program, Valparaiso University students introduce VCS students to the basics of Chinese, French, German, or Spanish as well as elements of culture, in a one-hour-a-week class.

Our program is what is know as a "Foreign Language Exploratory" or "Foreign Language Experience" ("FLEX") program. This kind of basic program serves as an introduction to language learning.

The classes are held Mondays after school beginning September 21, 2009.  There are 8 sessions in the fall and 6 sessions in the spring.

Fall session 2009:
Sept. 21, 28
Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26
Nov. 9, 16
*no classes on Nov. 2
Spring session 2010:
Jan. 11, 18, 25
Feb. 1, 8, 22
*no classes on Feb. 15
The instructors are VU foreign language students, carefully chosen for their commitment to work with children.

We are confident that this introduction to language learning will motivate your child to continue foreign language study in middle school and in high school, and we invite your fourth- or fifth-grader to enroll.
