On April 9, 2010, Professor Randa Duvick was awarded the title of Chevalier in the Ordre des Palmes académiques, Knight of the Order of Academic Palms.
The Order of Academic Palms is a French order of chivalry created to honor educators for "services rendus à la culture française" -- service rendered to French culture. Professor Duvick received this distinction for her exceptional service in French education and culture. The award was first given by Napoléon I in 1808. The medal is composed of a purple silk ribbon to which is attached a silver laurel, a symbol of the Napoleonic order. It was presented to Professor Duvick by Jean-François Rochard, Deputy Cultural Attaché of the French Consulate in Chicago.
