Scholarships for First Year Students

$1,000 Scholarship for Incoming First Year Students Who Will Major in Classics, French, German or Spanish

Valparaiso University announces its annual competition for $1,000 scholarships for incoming first year students who will major in Classics, French, German, or Spanish. These merit awards are renewable three times for a total of $4,000 if the student remains a foreign language major and makes satisfactory academic progress. Scholarship holders may have two majors.

There are three parts of the application process:

1) APPLICATION FORM and ESSAY


Submit the application form, including an essay of 200 words about your academic and career goals.

You may submit the application form and essay through the online application form.  Or, if you prefer, you may print off the application form (PDF) and mail it along with your essay to Professor Nelly Zamora-Breckenridge (see mailing address below).  You may also create a PDF of your application and essay and submit via an email message to Professor Nelly Zamora-Breckenridge.

 

2) LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION


Obtain a letter of recommendation from your high school language teacher who will then mail the letter to:

3) LANGUAGE EXAM


• If you are in French, German or Spanish, you will take the on-line language exam. Even if you submit your application form by regular mail, you must take the language exam for German or Spanish on-line by clicking on the link above.
• If you are in Classics (Latin), we will send the language exam to your teacher or you may take it at Valpo during a visit to campus before February 6, 2015.
