Sponsored jointly by Valparaiso University's Department of Music, Chinese & Japanese Studies program and Confucius Institute

As part of our effort to promote Chinese culture in the Midwest, the Confucius Institute at Valparaiso University is sponsoring The Third Annual Great Lakes Confucius Institute Music Festival.

The festival will include a total of ten performances in Valparaiso, Gary, Hammond, Elkhart and Milwaukee in Indiana; as well as a performance in Chicago, Illinois, all of which will feature the Shanghai Conservatory Traditional Instrument Ensemble.

We would like to use this opportunity to express our deepest appreciation to everyone who has helped to make this festival happen, especially our Music Directory, Dr. Friesen-Carper, our concert hosts including the Confucius Institute at University of Chicago, Thea Bowman Leadership Academy, Bishop Noll Academy, Concord High School, Wheeler High School, Culver Military Academies and our participating orchestras.

The Third Annual Great Lakes Confucius Institute Music Festival represents continued effort and commitment of the Confucius Institute at Valparaiso Universtiy and our partners to promote musical and cultural exchange between China and America. Our approach is rooted deeply in Confucian belief that 'harmony is the most valuable of all things" and "nothing is more effective in bringing harmony than music." We look forward to advancing this philosophy through collaboration with friends through our annual Great Lakes Confucius Institute Music Festival.
