Patricia
Beyer, Ph.D. (Formerly Patricia Ernest), Geography, 1990
I graduated
in 1990 with a degree in English and Geography, got a MS in
Geography in 1992 from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
then a PhD in Geography in 1997 from Arizona State University.
(I specialized in periglacial and fluvial geomorphology.)
I’m now an associate professor in the Department of Geography
& Geosciences at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, where
I’ve been since 1999, teaching water-related geography and
geosciences courses, and other physical/environmental geography
courses. I get back to the Valpo area about twice a year to
see my parents, who now live on the southern shore of Lake
Michigan.
Kirk Melhuish,
1984
I just celebrated my 20th Aniversary as Chief Meteorologist
on-air at #1 rated News/Talk 750 WSB Radio in Atlanta, Georgia.
In 2005 I become one of the first Certified Broadcast Meteorologists
in the country under the new AMS program, and the first in
the state of Georgia. This summer I had a chance to see all
the great new facilites on campus and enjoyed my tour.
Ted Schultz,
Geography, 2006
I am a GIS/IT Specialist for R.C. Goodwin and Associates,
Inc., a Cultural Resources Management (CRM) firm based out
of Frederick, MD. I am currently leading GIS operations in
underwater archeology, but I also work on a wide variety of
other projects. I have been involved in mapping historic buildings
in Delaware, managing prehistoric archeological sites in Ohio,
and 3D magnetic relief mapping in the Gulf of Mexico, to name
a few. I am also the in-house IT specialist for the office.
Ashley Brooks,
Meteorology, 2005
In May 2007 I graduated from Purdue University with a Master
of Science in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Currently I
am a Meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
Brian Moritz,
Geography, 2006
I
am an entry level GIS Tech in a Remote Sensing Lab for Sanborn
down in Fort Worth, Texas.
Josh Olson,Geography,
2004
I graduated
from the University of Colorado-Denver in May '06 with a Master's
of Urban and Regional Planning. I am currently working for
Douglas County's Community Development Department as an Urban
Planner. I bascially review an assortment of land use applications
and work to further the goals and objectives of the comprehensive
plan.
Erik D. Kabela,
Meteorology, 2004
I graduated from Iowa State University in May '06 with a Master
of Science in Agricultural Meteorology. I am currently working
for Washington Savannah River Company at the Savannah River
National Laboratory in Aiken, South Carolina, which is a Department
of Energy facility. I help to provide forecasts to the entire
site twice per day, write site climatology reports for various
documents, and perform
some research on the site.

A group of Meteorology Alumni have set up an online forum
for Valpo Meteorology Alumni to talk about the weather, catch
up with each other, and help with job searches.
