Read Preface and pp. 1-24. Come to class with a specific example of your own of the ways that culture, consumption, telecommunications, the economy, and environment are globalized. Examples might come from a newspaper or other source, or perhaps a personal experience. Jot them down, clip a newspaper article, and come to class with an example or two to share.
Come to class with a basic understanding of the following concepts: Social process, spatial structure, spatial scale, spatial interaction, homo economicus, First/Third World, Globalization, Transnational/Multinational Corporation (TNC/MNC), Foreign Direct Investment, transmaterialization.
