1.      What is watershed management planning and why is it important? 

 

2.      What problems do zebra muscles (an invasive species) create in Chesapeake Bay?

 

3.      What is the current state of bay grasses?  What can be done to encourage their restoration?

 

 

4.      What is the current state of bay oysters?  What can be done to encourage their restoration?

 

 

 

5.      What are the most important nutrient pollutants and what are their major sources?

 

 

 

6.      What are some techniques that can be used to reduce nutrient pollution?

 

 

 

7.      What is an “airshed”?  How does air pollution contribute to problems in Chesapeake Bay?

 

8.      How can changes in land use help in restoration of the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem?

 

 

9.      Go to the water quality section of the web site http://www.chesapeakebay.net/wquality.htm.  Look at the graph for dissolved Oxygen at the Potomac river station.  Why does dissolved oxygen decrease in the summer months?  (Hint look at the other graphs.)

 

 

 

 

10.  Compare graphs for Dissolved Oxygen at the Potomac River and Susquehanna River stations.  How do levels of dissolved oxygen differ between the two locations?  What might be some of the causes for these differences based on the location of the stations?

 

 

11.  Can oysters survive in the area around the Potomac River station?  Why or why not?
