Tornados:

Hands on activity: Tornado Machine

Notes: Will be done in 'dark room' area

 

Hurricanes:

Hands on activity: Make a Hurricane (computer-based activity)

Notes: Perhaps foster competition making 'better' hurricane between two sub-groups (two different computers will be provided)

 

Wind:

Hands on activity: Demonstrating and testing various anemometers (how fast can you make it spin!)

Notes:

 

Pressure & Instrumentation:

Hands on activity: Explaining Hair dryer and ping-pong ball activity, old radiosonde, kestrels

Notes:

 

Clouds & Precip:

Hands on activity: NEW! Make a cloud! Additional match game available.

Notes: Pre-event training (particularly) recommended

 

Lightning:

Hands on activity: Various lightning generators, including Vandergraph generator*

Notes: Dark room activity

*Pre-event training required

 

Thunderstorms:

Hands on activity: Convection experiment (colored ice-cubes in a cooler)

Notes:

 

Winter:

Hands on activity: Make snow!

Notes:

 

Radar and Satellite:

Hands on activity: Doppler Effect. Match game if desired.

Notes: Computers will be available for visual demonstrations

 

Broadcast:

Hands on activity: Allow students to try a broadcast!

Reception:

Notes: Check-in with incoming groups. Direct them to Heritage room and play kid-friendly meteorology VHS for early arrivals.
