Book Exhibit: Georg Büchner Prize Winners (1984 - 2008) A display of books published by winners of the Georg Büchner Prize, Germany's most prestigious literary prize, along with biographical vignettes about the 25 most recent winners. The exhibit opens with a screening of "Yesterday Girl," ("Abschied von gestern") a film directed by and based on a short story by 2003 prize winner Alexander Kluge (see below). |

"Abschied von gestern" (Yesterday Girl) Director: Alexander Kluge Germany 1966. Black and white, 88 minutes. In German with English subtitles. Director Alexander Kluge, winner of the 2003 Georg Büchner Prize, adapted his own story "Anita G." for the cinema. Anita is a young East German woman who comes to West Germany with hope for a better life there. The film won multiple awards at the Venice Film Festival, including the Special Jury Prize. |
