Guided Tour

Here are a few photographs of the Kade-Duesenberg German House and Cultural Center.  The first images show the downstairs, where you'll find space for classes, Kaffeestunde, an after-school program for children (taught by Valpo students) called Kinder lernen Deutsch, piano playing, or just hanging out.

Fireplace Lobby
Welcome to the main lobby.  With Bach on the left and Luther on the right, German students can feel right at home.  The building's architecture was inspired by the Bauhaus, a movement from the early 20th century that admired functional lines.
 At Kaffeestunde
Students, faculty, and even community members gather on Friday afternoons for Kaffeestunde - an opportunity to speak in German at whatever level is right for you.
Prof. Bjornstad (left) seems to be making a point!
 Piano in Lobby
A beautiful baby grand piano graces the lobby of the Cultural Center; students and faculty enjoy playing.
 Laura at the Piano
Laura prepares to perform for her classmates at the Schubertiade in December.  At this festive event German major seniors hosted some music majors for an evening of refreshment and music, German-style.
 Seminar Room
Small classes and meetings take place in the Library of the Kade-Duesenberg German House and Cultural Center.
 2008/2009 Residents

Residents from the 2008/2009 academic year greet you upstairs in their private residence.  Thirteen students can reside in the German House, including the RA who is always from Germany.
Rooms are configured in suites with one or two bedrooms sharing a bathroom; there are several singles in the German House that are often granted to seniors.

 At Dinner
A few residents enjoy a meal that looks pretty healthy.  Laura, Bettina, Joash, Nicki, and Matt.  Ryan is not visible, but he is holding the camera in the reflection of the window - see the flash?
