Anna Wiersma is a junior from Holland, Mich., who is majoring in International Economics and Cultural affairs. She was looking for a university where she could make a difference. She found Valparaiso University and, thanks to the Valpo Fund, was able to attend Valpo, where she has become a campus leader.

Wiersma also has a Spanish concentration and a minor in political science and theatre. She is a member of Christ College. Wiersma is active in the Social Action Leadership Team (SALT), Sigma Alpha Iota, a women’s professional music fraternity and is an Ambassador in Admission. In addition, Wiersma will be assistant director of the Christ College Freshman Production for the second year and had a role in the production of The Arabian Nights on campus.

Wiersma spent this past summer working as an intern at the YMCA in Valparaiso, Chile. This facility sponsors an elementary school, two foster homes, a soup kitchen and a tutoring program to teach English to adults.
