Preparing for a music and food adventure
Gabe Glass

Hi everyone! My name is Gabe Glass and I’m a freshman vocal performance major at Valparaiso University. I’m really excited to be writing throughout our experience in Germany this summer, and hopefully my insight will let you all get a glimpse at what we’re up to!

First let me tell you a bit about myself. I love food. Plain and simple, there you have it, so in most of my entries you’ll probably find a lot of food talk. I’ve never been to Europe before, but I’ve seen plenty of Food Network specials about food from places like Germany, so my expectations will be high!

I’m extremely passionate about music and how much can be done with it. Music is the perfect tool for expressing emotion, especially when you can’t exactly show those emotions in any other way. It’s that universal “language” that connects every human being. I love sharing music with others, whether it is with my fellow Choralians, or just me and my guitar. Music is almost like an escape. It’s an outlet to clear your head and get what you’re feeling out in the open. It’s the greatest gift I know to give and that I’ve ever received, and I’m sure my experience in Germany will be a fine testament to that statement.

I’m really looking forward to this trip for a variety of reasons. Yes, the food experience will be amazing I’m sure, but it’s the growth and musical knowledge that I’ll be gaining that is most exciting. Being under the direction of Dr. Cock this first year at Valparaiso University has been a challenge and an honor, and traveling to Germany with him and my other peers will only spur more creativity and musical growth. Coming to Valpo almost one year ago, I had no idea of the professionalism and insight I would gain just in two semesters. Going to Germany is going to be rewarding both musically, and emotionally. The sights and sounds of Germany will be exciting and new, and I’m sure I will come home in June with many fond memories.

So stay tuned as these posts keep coming, because the Valparaiso University Chorale has many exciting days ahead, and you don’t want to miss any of it! It will be my honor to keep you all informed, so keep your eyes peeled and hearts open as we travel to Germany for two weeks of musical adventure!
