Jonathan Rudy is one of a handful of Chorale members participating in their second tour of Germany with the ensemble, returning to perform at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig while visiting several new venues.
“Singing in Germany on tour calls us to be even more professional,” Rudy says. “It’s a different level of expectation when you come into a different country and culture to perform.”
Rudy, who graduated just prior to the tour with a bachelor’s degree in church music, says that his first tour to Germany with the Chorale in 2007 provided an opportunity to grow as a musician.
“When you come here and listen to the music as it was meant to be played in the places where it was meant to be performed, it’s a really wonderful experience,” he says.
Rudy, who also performs the organ and won two organ competitions for young musicians in spring 2009, says the relationships built with his fellow Chorale members have been an important part of his Valpo experience.
“We really have a great group of people to work with as colleagues and musicians who really care about you as well,” Rudy says. “When you perform a concert you know you’re not just performing for the audience, but with 47 other people who have your back all the time.”
