Junior music and humanities major Jakob Tewes is helping the Valparaiso University Chorale give its German audiences a taste of the American spiritual song tradition during its current tour.

Tewes is the soloist in Robert DeCormier’s “Hallelujah,” one of several American chorale works the ensemble is performing to complement works by European masters such as J.S. Bach.

Tewes also will be extending his European experience at the conclusion of the Chorale’s tour, exploring his ancestery and participating in a Spanish language immersion program.

Tewes discusses his tour experiences, favorite Chorale memory and plans for the rest of the summer in a video that also includes a portion of his solo in “Hallelujah.”

Tewes plans to pursue graduate studies in choral conducting or law after graduating from Valpo.
