HAPPY NEW YEAR
We are kicking off the New Year with a University Guild Board of Directors meeting, Feb. 3 - 4, where the updated strategic plan for the organization will be finalized. We are anticipating exciting things happening for Valpo and the Guild in 2012! Blessings to all of you in the New Year!
GUILD SCHOLARSHIPS

Please encourage students you know to apply for a Guild scholarship by submitting the Guild scholarship application form before Jan. 15, 2012. Preference is given to applications received before that date. Eligibility is based on having a relative who is a Guild member. Once submitted, the Office of Financial Aid decides the recipients based on financial need, academic accomplishment and extracurricular involvement. Applicants need only apply one time, and their application will be kept on file as Guild scholarships come available.
MLK DAY 2012

Faculty, staff and students are working hard on events and activities related to Martin Luther King Day, which takes place Monday, Jan. 16. Take a peak at the schedule of activities and read about the focus sessions taking place. The MLK Convocation keynote speaker is Tim King, founder, President and CEO of Urban Prep Academies, a nonprofit organization operating a network of public college-prep boys' schools in Chicago. Closing speaker is Iris Chen, President and Chief Executive Officer of the "I Have A Dream" Foundation. If you can make it to campus on Jan. 16, be sure to participate in some of these special programs!
RESIDENTIAL LIFE

Students are returning from break and preparing for the new semester, which begins Jan. 11. Valpo's eight residence halls and two apartment complexes are home to 2000
undergraduate students. Of these residence halls, one houses members of Valpo's six national sororities. All first-year, sophomore and junior
students are required to live in approved University housing. The Office of Residential Life works to provide safe and comfortable
living and learning communities for our students. Did you know that they intentionally design programs,
services and leadership opportunities to foster an environment
conducive to achieving academic goals, personal growth and the
development of community? Residentiality is a key component of the mission of Valparaiso
University. The residence halls are central to this effort by providing
living and learning experiences that contribute to the growth and
development of students while enhancing their overall education at Valpo.
