Welcome to the site for the spring 1999 section of English 420: Literature of the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries at Valparaiso University.

This site will soon become an archive for some of our class work this semester: namely, constructing timelines and annotating select texts or portions thereof as context for five strands of inquiry that the course addresses: Imagining New Worlds, Religious Reformations, Poetic Visions, Women of Question and Questions of Women, and The Theatre of Regicide and Current Events.

In so doing, we hope to work profitably with the cultural and material context of the works that we read, and to contribute, as well, to scholarly web communities. Most of the growth on this site will occur after spring break (that is, after the middle of March). Please pardon any links that are not yet working, and come back as we put our coursework together.
