Requirements

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline, or acceptable equivalent experience is required.

Experience/Skills:

Valparaiso University is seeking applications for the position of Network Administrator.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline, or acceptable equivalent experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals, such as TCP/IP, the OSI model, routing, subnetting, multicast, along with network application protocols.
  • Knowledge of network architecture design principles, practices and implementation.
  • Understanding of network management tools, network access control, DNS and DHCP, firewalls and VPN.
  • Understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Experience working with a variety of network vendor products, including edge and core switches, wireless access points and controllers, firewall products, etc.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Network-specific training a plus.
  • A strong desire to learn and adapt in an ever-changing career field.
  • Must be willing to be on call for after-hours emergencies.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting in the daily management and maintenance of the Valparaiso University campus network infrastructure and security.

  • Install, configure and maintain network edge and core switches, access points and related devices and systems
  • Troubleshoot network-related problems, including endpoint connectivity
  • Assist senior staff in the design, testing and implementation of new network products
  • Create and maintain documentation
