Job Summary: | Counseling
- Provide individual, conjoint, and group counseling to Valparaiso University students.
- Provide crisis intervention and crisis counseling for students whenever needed.
- Provide consultation concerning students and student problems to faculty, staff, students, parents, and other professionals.
- Administer and interpret appropriate evaluation instruments.
- Maintain accurate client records within legal and ethical guidelines of the profession.
- Provide referrals to clients requiring external providers.
Outreach and Consultation
- Develop and present outreach programs and services to address and respond to the needs of the campus community.
- Participate in outreach activities in the greater community on a time-available basis.
- Provide consultation and referral for University faculty, staff, and administration regarding Counseling Center policies, procedures, and services, as appropriate.
Supervision and Training
- Share orientation and supervision responsibilities for mental health trainees with other professional staff.
- Participate in continued professional growth via activities such as seminars, conferences, and in-services.
- Work cooperatively with fellow professionals to develop and implement Counseling Center services.
Administative
- Be knowledgeable of and support Counseling Center policies and procedures.
- Be aware of and support Student Affairs goals and objectives.
- Consult with director and other staff regarding all major decisions which affect the Counseling Center.
- Collaborate with staff to formulate annual Counseling Center goals and objectives.
- Participate in Counseling Center, Student Affairs, and University committee work, as appropriate.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies for marketing the Counseling Center services.
- Administer and coordinate assigned areas of responsibility.
- Assist in the selection of Counseling Center professional and support staff.
- Provide consultation and referral for University faculty, staff, and administration regarding Counseling Center policies, procedures, and services, as appropriate.
- Provide input for budget formulation and implementation for the Counseling Center.
- Accept additional responsibilities when needed.
Staff Therapist position is a 10 month, full time position. August 1, 2010 to May 31, 2011.
