The Marketing Assistant for Integrated Marketing and Communications supports the mission of Valparaiso University by helping design and implement strong marketing communications strategies that advance the mission and vision of Valpo with members of the campus community. The marketing assistant must possess strong knowledge of the brand in order to manage it, approve submissions, and reject as necessary; the ability to build positive relationships with members of the campus community and offer solutions to an array of marketing communications challenges. As part of the above, the marketing assistant will work closely with other members of the IMC team to coordinate University branding with related marketing activities and special events. As an assistant on special events, a high-profile professionalism must be exhibited as the events include Commencement, events at the President's residence, and others. An integral role will be the manager of the University's website calendaring. This will occur in conjunction with the department representatives actually responsible for the room reservation; and the information will be transferred to the website. Accuracy and attention to detail is a must.

Reporting Relationship

• Reports to the Vice President with daily interactions through the Pipeline Manager.
• Works with other IMC staff on projects such as media relations, internal communications, special events, fundraising and campaign communications, alumni communications, and communications to prospective students.
• Collaborates with other individuals on campus including administrators, faculty and deans to achieve a variety of marketing communication goals, with a focus on internal communications, calendaring, brand, and special events.

Specific Responsibilities

• Understands the mission and vision of Valpo and can effectively communicate it to an audience.
• Supports the work of the IMC team as it strives to achieve goals related to increasing student recruitment and raising funds for the University.
• Strong project manager able to conceive and follow through with ideas to help build pride and affinity among members of the campus community through University branding and event marketing.
• Assists with preparing a strong overall branding strategy, including themes, messages and tools.
• Assists event planner to ensure success of special events.
• Works with vendors, community and campus members to approve or rework branded items to ensure proper branding is in place.
• Works with campus members on marketing events through the Campus Chronicle and online calendaring system.
• Participates on committees designed to strengthen and improve Valpo's marketing communications.
