Experience/Skills:

Required Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience in positions with management and supervisory duties in a public setting;
  • Very strong customer service orientation;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to interact and communicate with clarity, discretion, and courtesy to supervisors, co-workers, the University community, and the public;
  • Time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize multiple workflows, problem solving and good reasoning skills; detail-oriented; ability to maintain accurate records;
  • Ability to make informed, on-the-spot decisions and possess flexibility for working in a collegial and team-based environment;
  • Excellent computer skills; familiarity with MS Office Suite; and
  • Physically able to lift and shelve books; must be able to retrieve and transport library materials from shelves, which requires lifting, bending, and stooping.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or some college education;
  • Experience working in a library;
  • Experience with library automated systems, and/or classroom technology or audio-visual equipment.

Job Summary:

Manage and provide those services that are normally delivered at the Circulation and Media Desks, including circulation, reserves, equipment reservations, copy machine services, and routine shelving. Responsible for specific duties regarding building operations and security. Supervise circulation student assistants. Communicate with supervisor and co-workers regarding problems, policies, and procedures. Complete special projects as assigned.

Overall Responsibilities Include:

The Library Supervisors CMEve (Circulation Manager Evenings) is the only staff person in the building for most of the evening hours; using sound judgment, this person must address all problems, incidents, and weather emergencies that arise. The position is also primarily responsible for the print and media collections' stack maintenance, stack shifting, and searching for and monitoring records for missing items.

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the Circulation and Media Desks.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate departmental student assistants, in conjunction with the other circulation managers.
  • Communicate with other Circulation Managers and solve routine problems associated with service activities.
  • Communicate with supervisor and co-workers as needed regarding non-routine or recurring problems.
  • Recommend policies or procedures to Director of Library Research Services; assist the Director with all other departmental functions.
