Masters Degree in college student personel or related field required.


  • 3 years of residential life and/or housing experience preferred.
  • Outstanding organizational, leadership, and crisis management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication is essential.
  • Advising, and problem-solving skills.
  • High degree of energy; patience; sensitivity to the academic and personal needs of college students.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and learning that goes beyond the classroom.

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director for Residential Life is responsible for assisting in the administration of a comprehensive residential life program consistent with the philosophies and goals of Valparaiso University, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Office of Residential Life. The specific responsibilities include overseeing of the daily operational issues and functions in residence halls and apartments.

  • Managing the room assignments.
  • Conducting health and safety inspections.
  • Managing the damage assessment program for residential facilities.
  • Liaison with various campus departments; Serve as a resource for students, staff, faculty, and student families.
  • Provide assistance in support of staff training,staff development and evaluation.
  • Assist with other various services and programs coordinated by the Office of Residential Life.
