Each spring all IECA majors participate in the International Workshop, a day-long activity in experiential learning. Often this takes the form of a simulation, in which IECA majors role-play within a fictional situation that presents an international or intercultural conflict to be resolved by the participants. Past simulations have included "Hostage Crisis" and "Fire in the Forest" (about rain forest destruction and decisions to be made). These Workshops allow students to put into practice the concepts of negociation, policy development, and cultural awareness that they have discussed in their IECA classes. In other words, they get to DO what they have been talking and reading about.

Past workshop topics have included:

2006: Fire in the Forest

2005: Hostage Simulation

2004: Who Defends Whom?
A study of European Common Defense

2002: Intervention in Somalia
Options for resolving the Somali crisis of 92-93

2001: Yugoslavia 1993
Negotiations for peace in the Balkans

2000: East Asian Human Rights Dialogue
Issues of trade and human rights

1999: Fire in the Forest
Issues of environment, politics, and economics
