Job Description, Duties and Qualifications
Description:
To lifeguard and supervise safe and proper use of the VU swimming pool. The main responsibilities are to assist in pool operations, clean aquatic facility when needed, record daily participation, control participants and handle immediate first aid needs. The lifeguard must be dedicated to the insurance of safety to the patrons using the pool and maintain positive relations and rapport with our staff.
Duties:
- Responsible for supervision of the pool facilities
- Clearing of the pool at closing time
- Informing swimmer approximately ten (10) minutes before the pool closes
- Maintain cleanliness of the pool area
- Curtail and misuse of the pool facility by its patrons by informing them of what manner they are improperly using the pool
- Make sure the safety equipment is in its correct place
- Check for proper identification
- Wear swim suits at all times
- Lifeguards are not allowed to eat, drink, or smoke while on duty
- Ensure that all participants take showers before entering the pool and wear proper attire
- No street shoes will be allowed on the pool deck
- Give first aid as required and follow the proper medical procedures
- Practice all safety precaution in dealing with blood borne pathogens
Qualifications:
- Must have current Lifeguarding certification (AED, CPR, Oxygen Administration, First Aid)
- Preferred WSI
- Preferred previous lifeguarding experience
- Knowledge of Valparaiso University policies
