Recommended Mobile Apps

Many excellent free and paid apps are available for mobile devices in addition to the native apps built into the respective operating systems. Here are a few recommendations. The apps below are free unless otherwise noted.

Android

Accessing Gmail@Valpo

The Gmail and Calendar apps are native to the OS and should automatically be available on your device. When browsing the Google Play Store, search for "Google" and official Google apps as well as third party apps will be listed. There are many apps that work with the various functions of your Gmail@Valpo account.

Security and Privacy

Wheres My Droid - if your device gets lost, you can lock or reset it from WheresMyDroid.com

Access to the SonicWall VPN system at Valpo is currently not supported on Android devices. Please see this webpage for more information.

iOS

Accessing Gmail@Valpo

The native Mail, Calendar and Contacts apps will work with your Gmail@Valpo account. In the App Store, you can search for "Google" and see many different apps, including official Google apps as well as third party apps. Here are some additional apps that you may find useful.

  • Gmail - official Google mail app
  • GooCal - iPhone calendaring (particularly helpful for accessing shared calendars)
  • G-Whizz! - full suite of Google Apps for Education functionality in a mobile format; 2 versions available:
  • GoDocs, $4.99 - access your Google Docs/Drive
  • GoTasks - task management
  • GDrive - easy access to your Google Docs/Drive

Security and Privacy

In addition to setting a passcode in the built-in Settings app, there are other ways to protect your phone and privacy. You can configure privacy settings in Safari. These apps also provide security and privacy for your device.

  • Find My iPhone - if your device gets lost, you can lock or reset it from any computer or other iOS device
  • SonicWall Mobile Connect - Valpo's official VPN system that encrypts information sent to or from your device
