In addition to your individual webpage, you will have access to create a MySQL Database.  The MySQL (My Structured Query Language) software delivers a very fast, multi-threaded, multi-user, and robust SQL database server.

The Office of Information Technologywill not provide support or training for the use of PHP, MySQL or CGI available on individual web pages.  We cannot guarantee that these features will be available in the future as their availability depends on system compatability.  Please use services like the MySQL database at your own risk.

Acquire a MySQL Database

Direct your browser to either, or and click on the Manage WWW account in the blackbar near the top and login with your ValpoNet username and password.

  1. A WWW account must have been created.
  2. Click on "Create Database."
  3. Type in a password.
  4. Re-Type the password.
  5. This password is for MySQL only and nothing else! Click "Submit."
  6. If you now see "Change Database Password" and "Delete Entire Database" it created a mysql account.

Change the MySQL Account Password

  1. Click on "Change Database Password."
  2. Type in a password.
  3. Re-Type the password.
  4. Click "Submit."
    This password is for MySQL only and nothing else!

Delete the MySQL Database

  1. Click "Delete Entire Database."
  2. Click on "yes."
  3. An option to "Create Database" will now appear.

Connecting from Pluto

  1. SSH to Pluto
  2. Type : "/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql -p"
  3. Enter your password.
  4. Information for using the mysql command line utility is at the bottom of this page.

Connecting with PHP

  • As documented on, use "mysql_connect('localhost', 'mysql_user', 'mysql_password')" to connect to the the mysql server.
  • The username is your ldap username.
