The IT Help Desk has received several reports about a new scam circulating that references "wire transfers" or "ACH and wire transactions." The message is signed by the "online security department" of either the Federal Reserve System or FDIC. The emails include a link to an executable (.exe) file on an illegitimate website. Do not click on the link - clicking on the link may infect your computer with malware. Please do not reply to the sender of the message. Alert the Help Desk if you receive a message and are unsure of its validity.

July 21, 2011: Another version of this type of scam, claiming to be from the National Security Agency, is now appearing on campus. The screenshot below is one example of this version. As with all scam email messages, the best response is to ignore and delete the message.
