DATATEL DOCUMENTATION

VU network (referred to as Novell Directory Services or NDS), UNIX, and VU mail accounts for faculty, staff, and non-employees can be created after all of the data entry by Human Resources.  For visiting faculty or staff or consultants, the host, supervisor, or department chair must contact Human Resources to provide necessary information--see below. Access to Datatel administrative resources requires a number of steps related to permissions and security.

Administrative Access

You and your supervisor or department must be sure the following steps have been taken.
  1. Apply for network access through completion of HR paperwork
  2. The authorized staff person in the department must submit a work request [Heat Ticket] specifying what Datatel access you should have.
  3. Return the completed Confidentiality Agreement form to IT.  Access to Datatel will not be granted until this form is received by the IT staff in conjunction with #2.
  4. Check to see if there is a DATATEL icon on your computer.  If not, a separate work order [Heat Ticket] should be submitted to have this installed by IT staff.

Since account creation may take several days for Datatel authorizations to clear, supervisiors can expedite the process by submitting heat tickets and confidentiality agreement paperwork in advance of a new employee's start date.
