We are performing testing and working on developing implementation plans for both Windows Vista and Office 2007. The 64-bit version of Vista will not be supported. We will keep this site updated with updates as they become available.

Windows Vista

  • Student/Residence Hall Connectivity
Clean Access is certified to work with Vista. If you are using the free campus Sophos Antivirus you will need to download the Vista specific version from the download site.
  • Wireless Connectivity
See above under Residence Hall Connectivity. Please note that the VPN client software is not yet available for Vista. We expect a new version shortly.
  • Off-Campus Connectivity
All VU resources should work without problems with Windows Vista. The VPN client software is not yet available for Vista. We expect a new version shortly.
  • Office Connectivity
We are in the early stages of gathering information and testing supported applications with Vista. We have not yet formulated deployment plans. If you have any immediate needs to use Vista, please contact us so we may assist you.

If you are purchasing a computer with the intention of running Windows Vista, please be advised that it has more demanding hardware requirements than its predecssors. Look for PCs that indicate they are "Windows Vista Capable" to meet basic requirements of running Vista, and PCs that are "Windows Vista Premium Ready" to be able to use the more advanced features of Windows Vista.

IT recommends the following specifications for best performances of a newly purchased or upgraded system:

  • 3 GHz or higher Pentium IV (or AMD equivalent) processor
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 80 GB hard drive
  • DVD-ROM drive
  • Integrated or installed audio card
  • Integrated or installed ethernet card
  • DirectX 9 capable video with WDDM driver support (256MB or higher graphics memory, Pixel Shader 2.0, and 32 bits per pixel for Vista Premium features)
