- VALPO WIRELESS
Valparaiso University offers wireless connection to VU and personal laptops and devices in various areas around campus. Wireless services are reserved for current students, staff, and faculty having an active ValpoNet account. Wireless access is available for both Windows and Macintosh computers.
Establishing your connection to the network via wireless services is a three step process:
- Having the correct system requirements necessary to obtain a wireless signal
- Setting up your wireless device to find the wireless network

Wireless Requirements
- 802.11 b/g WIFI Network Card
Any 802.11b wireless network card should work without any problems. 802.11g wireless network cards should be compatible with 802.11b networks (check the network card documentation). Our testing has shown that significant quality differences exist with some wireless network cards which may impact signal quality and signal range. IT performs production testing of all wireless network installation with CISCO 802.11b network cards.
Initial setup
- Wireless Network Card
Your wireless network card must be properly installed and configured for DHCP.
- SSID
The SSID for VU Wireless installations is: valpo
Most computers should automatically detect the SSID and offer to use it. Information on how to set the SSID should be included with your wireless card. Since this can vary widely from wireless card to wireless card you will have to contact the manufacturer for assistance if you cannot find this information.
Authentication
After you have successfully located the valpo wireless signal your web browser will be re-directed to the Wireless login page. Use your ValpoNet account to log into this site. If you do not yet have Clean Access installed on your laptop, you will be prompted to download the software. Follow the directions of the installation wizard and then log in with your ValpoNet account.
If you already have the Clean Access client installed, you simply need to login before attempting to access web pages. The Clean Access agent will pop up automatically.
Clean Access will grant a temporary login if you are not fully updated before it allows full access. Laptops will need to have all current critical windows updates, installed anti-virus software, and updated anti-virus definitions. Students can use Sophos Anti-Virus for free while they are enrolled in classes if they do not already have a current licensed software on their machine.
VPN Client
General web use will only require Clean Access. If you need additional access, you will need to log into the VPN client as well as Clean Access. The VPN client will give you a additional security by providing an encrypted connection .
Make sure you have the most current VPN client installed for your operating system on your machine.
After you have logged into Clean Access, select the profile for NetVU Valpo. This will allow you to establish the secure connection via the wireless network.
