Parent's Overview

You might wonder what the IT Fellows Program has to offer to your student that separates it from other work opportunities they might have in college. There is no single distinction that separates the program from your typical campus job. It is the little details when taken as a whole, however, that make IT Fellows so much more than a campus job. The program is more like supplementary education; an opportunity for students to increase their marketable attributes while at the same time contributing something that will have substantive meaning.Fellows Have Many Opportunities to Further their Knowledge

Fellows have the opportunity to attend at least ten enrichment seminars per semester where expert speakers will lecture, or give them hands on training, in a particular area. These seminars are open only to IT Fellows, and often provide training in areas of interest that would otherwise be cost prohibitive to the average student.

Fellows receive constant feedback from those mentoring them. In the average job on most campuses, students only receive instruction from supervisors when they make mistakes. With IT Fellows, the relationship between supervisors is mentor-mentee. Fellows are encouraged to come to their supervisors whenever they need feedback, have a question, or just want to discuss an area of interest. In this regard especially, it truly is an internship aimed at facilitating learning.

Another benefit to the structure of the IT Fellows program is its flexibility. A common question among parents is if their student will have the time for a job while carrying the responsibilities of a student along with the difficulties of transitioning to college life. As our freshmen students can testify, the answer is a resounding yes. Fellows determine when they will work based on the hours that are best available to them, and have ease in changing these schedules should an unforeseen conflict arise. Further, Fellows have found the program to be a positive change of pace from the stresses of student life, with their peers in the program becoming some of their best friends.

As you can see, there is no one aspect of the IT Fellows Program that sets it apart from the average campus job. However, the above reasons just scratch the surface as to what sets the program apart; for additional reasons as to why Fellows love the program, check out the testimonial page!
