Hosting Web Pages for Related Organizations

Valparaiso University will host web pages for "loosely-connected" nonprofit professional organizations -- for example, nonprofit professional organizations related to VU by virtue of a VU faculty or staff member holding a leadership role -- with the following understandings:
  1. web address will be of the form www.valpo.edu/organization (i.e., we will not host new domain names)
  2. no direct links from VU pages or connection via the VU search engine can be expected, unless the organization is directly related to VU as determined by the Provost's Office
  3. full-time active faculty or staff member must sponsor the pages and must be a member in good standing of the organization; hosting may cease whenever either of these conditions ceases to exist
  4. sponsor agrees to maintain web space; and VU may automatically expire outdated pages
  5. no person shall be authorized login access to the organization web account unless that person is already an authorized user of VU computing resources
  6. web space shall be limited to five (5) megabytes, and no access will be provided to cgi or other privileged system functions
  7. EIS technical support shall be limited to resetting the password upon request to the Help Desk
  8. content is subject to review by appropriate University authority; usage is to be governed by the Valparaiso University Acceptable Use Policy, Valparaiso University Web Page policies, and other applicable policies and guidelines
  9. Application must be approved by Provost's Office.

      This policy was drafted by the Web Committee on September 14, 2000 and revised and recommended by the Web Committee on April 12, 2001. It is being applied provisionally, pending approval by appropriate authority.
